collagen peptides

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies and the foundation of our connective tissue such as skin, bones, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage... even teeth and blood vessels. Around age 30, collagen starts to break down faster in our bodies than we can produce it. For example, the middle layer of our skin, which provides structure, becomes less plump and wrinkles form. Eating collagen ensures the necessary amino acids such as glycine, proline, and alanine are available in adequate amounts and the right ratios to promote the production of collagen. Optimal synthesis also requires certain nutrients be present such as vitamin C and copper. Randomized, controlled trials show oral collagen peptide consumption of 3000mg daily for 12 weeks promotes skin elasticity [1], [2]. Each SkinTē contains at least 3000mg of collagen.

For us to more effectively synthesize collagen on the inside, we need amino acids which are the chemical building blocks of proteins.

foundational herbs

Every SkinTē contains four foundational herbs we call BaderBlend. Dr. Amy Bader, with a focus on natural and herbal medicine, selected them specifically for their vitamin and mineral content. Horsetail and nettle root have been used to support vibrant hair, skin, & nails. She included hawthorn berry for its vitamin C content and strong heritage of soothing the heart both physically and emotionally. (And, it’s her favorite herb EVER! If you see her on the street, ask her why. Trust us, she won’t be shy.) Another one of her favorite herbs, passion flower, is in the mix to comfort, calm, and chill you out. Yes, please.

Smart ingredients

Ingredients_0267_F1_Edit_V1.jpg

In the beginning, we made SkinTē just for ourselves. Dr. Amy handed Elizabeth a pile of twigs, leaves, roots, berries, and petals (i.e., herbs). Unlike Amy, Elizabeth refuses to eat things that taste like dirt. So, with moxie, alchemy, and culinary intuition she made it taste amazing. Each SkinTē starts with collagen and BaderBlend. From there, Elizabeth works her magic so that each SkinTē tastes like a blissful treat while also contributing even more nutrition. Green tea. Hibiscus. Rooibos. Rose Hips. Cocoa. Coconut cream. These powerful ingredients are an integral part of our kickass beauty equation.

Sweeteners are tricky. There is no perfect one. We searched high and low, and chose sweeteners that taste great AND we feel good about: erythritol and monk fruit. These non-calorie sweeteners are derived from nature and don't contribute to inflammation.
